Our History
The Center—originally called the Baylor Center for Developmental Disabilities—was founded in 2014 to serve children and families in the Waco area by uniting three clinics that provide vital services, student training, and applied research, while also hosting workshops and community programs across Central Texas. In our second decade, we are embracing our expanding role as a leader in interdisciplinary research and training focused on the flourishing of people with and without disabilities. For this reason, we adopted a new name in 2025 that better reflects the deep commitment to promote the mutual flourishing of people with disabilities, their families, and communities.
Our Growth
In this next season, we are growing Baylor as a global leader in interdisciplinary research and training focused on the flourishing of people with disabilities and their families. Our work will be marked by its rigor, its relevance, and its reach. We are actively connecting and supporting faculty, staff, and students from across the university and beyond to join in innovative and collaborative work.
Our vision is to expand our Center into a campus-wide hub and catalyst for interdisciplinary research, training, and leadership focused on disability. We are already engaged with more than dozens of Baylor faculty interested or involved in disability-related scholarship. With a solid core of research support and participation from across schools and colleges, our work has the potential to activate the entire university, priming Baylor to become the trusted place for rigorous and relevant research on disability.
