ABA Services

The Baylor Center for Disability and Flourishing offers three programs based in applied behavior analysis.

The Baylor Clinic for Assessment, Research, and Education (CARE) is a member of the Baylor Center for Disability and Flourishing. Baylor CARE strives to provide children with cognitive and developmental disabilities with research-validated assessment and intervention services.

ABA Skill-Building Program

Using the Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) approach, the ABA program is a unique evidence-based program that serves individuals from birth to adulthood with a one-to-one child-to-therapist ratio. The program aims to provide individuals with developmental disabilities with evidence-based therapeutic interventions aimed at enhancing communication, social, adaptive, behavioral, and other needs. Individuals receiving ABA services will receive extensive educational assessment using the Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP) to determine individualized therapy goals and settings (1-to-1 or small group) that best suit the client's needs.

ABA Transition Skills Program

The Transition Skills Program provides transition assessment and intervention planning for teenagers and young adults. Program components address daily living and vocational skills. An individual intervention program will be developed to target skills such as meal preparation, grooming, housekeeping, completing job applications, and job-specific skills. Sessions may include both one-on-one and group sessions in which two or three clients meet collaboratively to target similar skills.

Client Qualifications: This program is designed for individuals 14 years to adulthood diagnosed with an intellectual or developmental disability (e.g., autism, Down syndrome, intellectual disability).

To apply for the ABA Transition Skills Program, complete the following application and submit it to bcdf@baylor.edu. Applications will be reviewed upon receipt. Accepted applicants will be placed with an available therapist or on the wait list on a first come, first serve basis.

ABA Severe Problem Behavior Program

The Severe Problem Behavior Program supports caregivers in understanding and managing their child's problem behaviors. This is a two-part program that consists of assessment and intervention based on the principles of ABA. The assessment aims to determine why a behavior is occurring (i.e., function). Based on the results of the assessment, an individualized intervention is created to reduce the problem behavior and promote replacement behaviors.

Client Qualifications: The program services children ages 2 to 7 years diagnosed with a developmental disability who engage in any of the following problem behaviors: aggression, self-injury, property destruction, tantrums. Children who have engaged in problem behavior that has resulted in an injury to themselves or others that required medical intervention may be referred to a more intensive support program.

Baylor CARE is staffed by volunteer advanced graduate students in the Applied Behavior Analysis graduate program at Baylor University. Baylor CARE therapists are highly trained, experienced therapists who are carefully supervised by CARE faculty, staff, and supervisors.
