Effective Use of Breaks: In the Classroom & Beyond
Breaks can be an effective proactive behavior support when they are taught, planned and used intentionally. The Baylor Center for Disability and Flourishing invites educators and school professionals to the September session of our 2026–2027 Behavior Support Professional Learning Community (PLC) series. This interactive virtual session will explore practical strategies for helping students appropriately request and use breaks across classroom and other educational settings.
During this session, participants will explore:
- Teaching students how to appropriately request and use breaks
- Determining when and where breaks should occur
- Using breaks effectively as a proactive behavior support
- Avoiding common pitfalls that can unintentionally reinforce challenging behavior
Each one-hour PLC includes:
- A 15-minute micro-learning presentation
- A case review connected to the monthly topic
- Collaboration and resource sharing with fellow educators and behavior support professionals
This series is ideal for behavior specialists, special educators, general educators, instructional coaches, school psychologists, counselors, administrators, and other professionals who support student behavior.
